Palvelujärjestelmien integraatio on yksi sote-uudistuksen tavoitteista. Tutkimustyypiksi valittiin kuvaileva kirjallisuuskatsaus.

Abstract (English)

Systems of healthcare and social welfare (HCSW) can be described as complex, network-like, open systems. They consist of relations between public, private, and third-party actors. Information systems are an important part of organisational information management. Complex, adaptive systems are established as central concepts in complexity thinking. Their typical properties include self-organization, emergence, network-like structures, nonlinearity and interconnectedness. One of the goals of the renovation of HCSW is the integration of the service systems. Information management supports the integration of the management and field-work of HCSW. The Health and Human Services Informatics (HHSI) paradigm steers education and research. Its four entities, with their bidirectional relations defined in pairs, cover broadly basic concepts of the discipline. A new connection between the entities of actors and action is added in the renewed version of the original HHSI paradigm, emphasizing the significance of values and attitudes in information management. The research type was a descriptive literature review. It was carried out with the aid of the first research question by examining how many words and/or combinations of words could be found in the research material according to three different search criteria. The materials of the study consist of academic dissertations in HHSI in the University of Eastern Finland between 2013−2025. The results show that titles referring to the integration of healthcare and social welfare were found in about 50 percent, and those referring to complexity in about 75 percent of the dissertations. Phrases fulfilling all the three search criteria were found in 10 out of 21 works. Possibilities to expand graphically the renewed HHSI paradigm with additional definitions was anticipated in the second research question. Partly based on the results of the first research question a new connection was added between the technology−data entities of the renewed paradigm. The additional attributes of the new entity relationship were named skills and practices. They refer to technical skills and social practices linked with operational environments of information management. The renewed HHSI paradigm with its supplements connects HCSW informatics to the complex systems of HCSW more closely than earlier. The significance of the chosen approach and results of the study for the HCSW informatics research and education are discussed and concluded.
