The 30th anniversary book of the Finnish Society of Telemedicine and eHealth explores the development of telemedicine, eHealth services and healthcare digitalisation in Finland from 1995 to 2025.
It combines the history of the Society with a broader account of how technology, digital information management and remote services have transformed healthcare.
The book brings together contributions from a range of authors and examines three decades of change through thematic perspectives rather than as a conventional chronological history. It follows the transition from paper and film to digital environments and the development of data transmission that opened new possibilities for remote interaction between patients, citizens and healthcare services.
The publication also reflects the broader shift from individual telemedicine applications towards eHealth and digital health. An important theme is the Society’s role as an open, multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary forum where healthcare professionals, researchers, educators, administrators, companies and other organisations have shared knowledge, discussed emerging innovations and contributed to the development of the field. Photographs and other materials add another dimension to the story by documenting the Society’s voluntary activities, events and community over the years. This English-language edition corresponds in content to the Finnish edition published in autumn 2025, while terminology, abbreviations and names of organisations, services and actors have been translated or explained to make the publication accessible to an international readership.
